Beloved wife, mother, sister and friend, Shirley Lou Neal, 81, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017 in Dallas, TX after a long and fulfilling life. She was born in Bourbon, Indiana, on April 14, 1935, to Art and Cora Hahn. After graduating from Bourbon High School in 1953, she studied at Indiana University, where she met a dashing Roger Neal. They wed on June 10, 1956. Then began her most meaningful and storied career as a wife, mother and domestic engineer. After raising three daughters and sending each of them off to Texas A&M, Shirley began a second career as an Aggie Mom extraordinaire. She devoted herself to being a "mom" to thousands of students at Texas A&M University. She served as President of the Houston A&M University Mothers' Club and President of the Federation of Texas A&M University Mothers' Clubs, a 5,000 member organization covering three states. She also served on the board of the Sterling C. Evans Library and was named an honorary Texas A&M Singing Cadet. At the age of 49, Shirley began her final career as "Ginny," loving grandmother, which she relished every day. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, crafts and travel. Shirley was a caring and dedicated friend to many, always ready to step up and help someone in need. She is preceded in death by parents Art and Cora Hahn and brother Warren Hahn. She is survived by her husband of more than 60 years, Roger; sister Marjorie Osborne and brother George Hahn; daughter Linda and husband Bill Goad; daughter Beth Peck; daughter Juli and husband Forrest Baldwin; grandchildren Billy, Bryan, Ashley, Ryan, Harrison and Connor; and great grandson Collier. Services will be held Thursday, March 16, at 2:00 p.m., at Lake Highlands United Methodist Church in Dallas, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Friends of the Sterling C. Evans Library, Texas A&M University, 5000 TAMU, College Station, TX 77843-5000 or to the FFP Aggie Ring Scholarship Fund, which provides a senior Aggie Ring for a student who is unable to purchase one, c/o Dianne Mayfield, 5921 Lavon Drive, Flower Mound, TX 75028.
